It seems like every single January I get in a rut. A "I hate winter" "it's way too cold" "I'm stuck inside" and "it's dark way too early" kind of rut. I just don't really like the cold and don't like the winter. I feel cooped up inside and miss being able to enjoy the outdoors. I hate to sit and complain, but the truth.is.the.truth.
This winter has been almost a.million.times.better so far without all of the snow, but I can feel it finally getting to me now. I wish I could take Asher outside running with me or just go on nice little walks. I miss the long summer days and can't wait for winter to be over.
I also feel like I'm in a bit of a creativity slump. There are so.many.things I want to do -- to my house mostly. Paint, backsplash, paint furniture, and re-decorate. But they are just ideas and I have yet to carry any of them out. I feel like if I could just get myself in gear and do some things I would feel so much better.
But life is good. Asher seriously keeps us on our toes.
Last week I got together with my friend Jamie and her baby girl Millie. Millie is a doll and such a calm, sweet little girl. I don't think I realized it until that day how active Asher is. He was constantly screaming (not a crying screaming, but a screaming-screaming), kicking, rolling and just going a little bit crazy in general. Millie just stared at him and watched everything he did. I felt like if she could talk she would have said "WHAT is he doing, and why can't he just hold still?"
The other day Marcus and I went to lunch at Olive Garden and our waitress was super nice, but she thought Asher was a girl. He was wearing a darling little gray and white outfit, one that I have waited for him to finally fit into. I was excited for him to finally wear. Apparently it is somewhat gender neutral though and Marcus has determined Asher should NEVER wear it again.
The first thing she said to us was that Asher was a beautiful baby. I wasn't phased. But the next thing she said was "She is just so darling." Marcus and I both just smiled and thanked her. We barely managed to hold back our laughing until she had walked around the corner. I think Marcus might have actually been a little bit mortified. And then for our entire meal, every single time she came back to refill our drinks, bring us our food or our check, she commented on "what a darling little girl" or "oh she's just so cute."
It's even more funny because in small cursive writing across his shirt it said "mommy's little guy". I'm not usually one for little sayings on my baby's clothes, but this one was so cute it was an exception. After a few comments from the waitress I covered Asher's shirt whenever she came back because at that point it would have been incredibly awkward if she had read the shirt and realized that he was actually a boy. And that we never corrected her after a dozen comments about "our little girl".

Funny story! Love it. I don't think Asher looks one bit like a girl, if that makes you feel any better. Luckily she didn't ask you his name. So funny!
PS. I totally get the January Rut. Blah.
It was so great to see you and Asher! I loved seeing how active and hyper Asher is! I think it's really cute :) And for the record...Asher does NOT look like a girl. He definitely looks like a boy! That really is so funny. Millie has been called a boy before too...with a bow in her hair, wrapped in a pink blanket. Couldn't figure that one out!! love ya!
How funny - I think you definitely responded the best you could. :)
No fail someone is always going to mess up the gender of your child at one point or another. Why is that? I've seen it when a girl was wear pink and everything. Pay attention people! :)
It was great seeing you last weekend. Looking forward to the next time!
I hate the winter blues. You're right though- this winter has been 100 times better. The days are already getting longer! :)
And it's because Asher's eyes are so blue and beautiful that the waitress got confused! Other than his beautiful eyes, he is definitely all boy. Funny story though. Excited to see you this month!
I'm with ya about being in a rut. So glad January is over tomorrow! Asher is a little stud.
"she" really does look soooo adorable! ha! Asher is 100 percent man. :) Loved this story.
That is so funny! Asher does not look like a girl. Not even a little bit. That is so weird she would have even thought he was a girl and how funny that she kept commenting on him everytime she came over. I have to admit I am curious to see the outfit he had on!
I thought January would be better for you now that you are not working. Look at the bright side, you could be at work :).
hahaha. that is so funny. it just makes you uncomfortable because you don't want them to discover that he is really a boy because that would be so embarrassing!!! i love that you covered up his shirt! when i was in high school, my sister was a teacher and people used to ask me, "so has is your class going?" thinking i was her, and i would just pretend i was her because i was too embarrassed to tell them different! he is getting cuter everyday!
